ABOUT

The Ohio Federal Research Network (OFRN) Opportunity Days are brought to you by Parallax Advanced Research in collaboration with The Ohio State University, and the Ohio Department of Higher Education. OFRN Opportunity Days are geared toward government, academic, and industry innovators and researchers in Ohio as well as anyone interested in collaborating on innovative ideas to solve government challenges. The OFRN Opportunity Day will feature thought leader presentations, Q&A, and R&D funding opportunities.

SPEAKERS

Dr. Gregory P. Crawford
Dr. Crawford is president of Miami University, in his 10th year. Prior to Miami, he was the dean of science and vice president at the University of Notre Dame and the dean of engineering at Brown University. While at Notre Dame, Dr. Crawford was also jointly appointed as an adjunct professor at the Indiana School of Medicine South Bend. A physicist by training, his research focused on optics and photonics for medical applications— non-invasive hemoglobin detection, aging bruises in abuse cases, infectious disease bedside sensors, and bioengineered muscle drug discovery platforms which included multiple clinical trials. Dr. Crawford has accumulated over 350 publications, 16 U.S. and several international patents, and is co-founder of two biomedical startup companies. Early in his career, he spent time in Silicon Valley working at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, later leading Notre Dame’s California Initiative in Palo Alto. Crawford is a Fellow of the Society for Information Display and the National Academy of Inventors. He has served on several boards including St. Joseph Regional Medical Center (SBRMC), Elkhart Indiana Economic Development Corporation, and currently with the large business incubator in Cincinnati, Ohio — Cintrifuse.

Dr. Paul Parazzoli
Dr. Parazzoli is the public sector business development lead at IBM where he focuses on federal strategy and policy initiatives and establishes technical collaborations. Prior to joining IBM, Paul was a research scientist at Sandia National Labs, developing technologies for quantum computing, quantum sensing, and precision time-keeping. He also served on temporary assignment as a program manager at the Department of Energy, Basic Energy Sciences, where he managed the quantum information sciences portfolio.

Dr. Ronald Reano
Dr. Reano is currently Co-Director of The Ohio State University Center for Quantum Information Science and Engineering and is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Ohio State University, Columbus. Prof. Reano’s research focuses on chip-scale waveguide integrated photonics in classical and quantum domains. His group specializes in silicon photonics and lithium niobate on insulator. Prof. Reano is the recipient of the DARPA Young Faculty Award, the ARO Young Investigator Award, the NSF CAREER Award, and the Ohio State University College of Engineering McCarthy Teaching Award. Reano is a 2024 Intel Outstanding Researcher Awardee in recognition of work on Quantum Curriculum Using the Intel Quantum Software Development Kit.
